No-one asked me if I wanted it cleared! (view larger image)

This disused area of Southall station used to be a riot of weeds and self-seeded flowers and shrubs - brambles, dandelions, rosebay willowherb, buddleia, etc - and at this time of year would have been covered in flowers and humming with insects. But, presumably in the belief that untamed plants and weeds are inherently bad, the local authorities made use of the "Community Payback" scheme to have the area cleared. But nothing better has been put in place since it was cleared, with the bare, dilapidated result that you see here. Personally, given a choice between this and a mess of weeds, flowers and insects, I'd rather have the weeds, flowers and insects!
